Discovery Mode is our flexible custom sequencing service. This enables you to specify exactly how many gigabases of data you need and how many samples to multiplex, giving you complete control over throughput and budget.
The amount of throughput needed will depend entirely on the physical size of your input DNA (e.g., average size on an agarose gel or anticipated amplicon size) and your desired depth of coverage. A formula is: Total Data Needed = Target Size (bp) × Desired Coverage × Number of Samples.
For example, if you are running 48 samples of a 4 kb amplicon pool and want 5000X coverage:
4,000 bp × 5,000 × 48 = 960,000,000 bp (or 960 Mb)
Since 1 Gigabase (Gb) equals 1,000 Mb, our included base throughput of 1 Gb is more than enough for this project.
By default, you will receive .fastq files. If you require other formats (such as .pod5, .bam, or analysis files), please specify this in the “Additional Information” section. Additional file types or custom analysis may incur extra charges.
Custom projects are typically completed within 3–5 business days from receipt of samples, depending on sequencing throughput. Turnaround may vary depending on project complexity and current queue. We’ll communicate specific timelines when we receive your samples. If you need the data ASAP, let us know.
