Genomics Specialist

Join our lab team and help build Canada's next-day DNA sequencing service. Posted June 22 2026.

About Flow Genomics:

At Flow Genomics, we are accelerating scientific discovery and improving human health by saving researchers their most important asset with our next-day DNA sequencing service: time. Our dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment is built on a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in biotechnology. We are seeking a motivated Genomics Specialist to join our growing team and contribute to building Canada's next-day sequencing service.

The Opportunity:

As a Genomics Specialist, you will be a crucial member of our team. You will be responsible not only for the end-to-end execution of our workflows, but process-building from the ground up. This role is perfect for a hands-on scientist who thrives in a collaborative multi-disciplinary lab setting, enjoys process optimization, and is eager to make a tangible impact on our core projects.

As a vital part of a fast-growing company, you will have the chance to contribute beyond a narrow job description. We value team players who take initiative, are eager to learn new skills, and are willing to "wear multiple hats" to help drive our collective success. This is a role with a real opportunity to make a tangible impact on our core projects and the company's direction. You will be expected to grow with the company, and will have the opportunity to grow beyond the lab, including in process building, bioinformatics, and laboratory automation.

Work Hours: In-Person, Monday – Friday. Occasional travel may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Preparation & Sequencing: Perform high-quality DNA library preparation for DNA sequencing.
  • Quality Control (QC): Execute and document rigorous QC checkpoints throughout the genomics workflow using standard molecular biology techniques.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct primary analysis of sequencing data, including assessing data quality, performing alignments, and summarizing results for the scientific team.
  • Protocol Development: Assist in the development, optimization, and validation of new laboratory protocols and workflows to enhance efficiency, quality, and capability. Draft and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Documentation & Collaboration: Maintain meticulous and organized records in our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Clearly communicate progress, challenges, and results to the team in regular meetings.

Desired start date: August 31, 2026 or earlier

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

  • A BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field. We encourage students seeking a 12+ month co-op term to apply.
  • 1–3+ years of hands-on experience in a molecular biology or genomics laboratory.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard molecular biology techniques.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality, reproducible results.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred:

  • You can demonstrate that you actively use AI tools to streamline your work and have real examples of putting them to use — at work or on your own projects.
  • Direct experience with DNA sequencing platforms and bioinformatic workflows.
  • Experience with laboratory automation or liquid handling systems.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, command-line tools) for bioinformatic data analysis.
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced industry environment.
  • Candidates who meet the criteria for the NRC IRAP Youth Employment program are encouraged to apply.
